Community Encouraged to Attend High School CHARACTERplus Rally Community members are invited to share their thoughts on what characteristics and values they hope to see promoted at Jefferson City High School at the CHARACTERplus Rally on Sunday, September 13, 2009 beginning at 2:30 p.m. The rally will bring students, staff, parents and community members together to learn more about the CHARACTERplus program as well as to vote on the types of values that should be instilled in our students. Mrs. Gara Loskill, Jefferson City High School staff member said, "This is a wonderful opportunity for community and school to come together to encourage our young people to embrace the values we share in this community." Among the speakers at the rally will be Superintendent Brian Mitchell, Mayor John Landwehr, Christina Ellinger of Central Bank, and Adriel Hawkins, JCHS student body president. The Character Plus Rally will be held in Fleming Field House. About CHARACTERplus CHARACTERplus works to advance the cause of character education and sustain its impact on the lives of educators and students by:
Started in 1988 by a concerned group of educators, parents and business leaders who decided that something had to be done about the deterioration of basic values, CHARACTERplus now reaches more than 600 schools in over 100 districts, 25,000 teachers and more than 300,000 students throughout Missouri and Illinois. CHARACTERplus also has the support of over 30 businesses, countless individuals, as well as foundations, federal and state grants. It is the nation's largest community-wide initiative in character education. CHARACTERplus helps schools build consensus about what values or character traits to teach and which programs to use.
