Key Communicator E-News

Key Communicator and TextJCPS

Want timely information about school issues and events? The Key Communicator provides weekly and time-specific information about the school district. Go to the Key Communicator page and subscribe at the very bottom of the page.

The District also offers text messaging.  TextJCPS allows parents to sign up to receive messages about special events, messages from coaches and select instructors, as well as emergency information.  (Special note:  the District is moving to a new texting service in the fall.  We will inform parents of the change when we are prepared to make the switch.)

Media Information

The Office of School Community Relations is committed to providing information to our public. We work with the media to provide information about our schools. Media representatives are encouraged to view the files in the link below regarding procedure and protocol when doing stories on the schools, our students and our staff.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is an important resource for parents.  We have included information from several U.S. Government sites on this link:  Go to JCPS and FERPA.

To view the FERPA brochures, follow this link:   http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/safeschools/index.html

School Safety Information

  • Missouri School Violence Hotline: click HERE .

The School Violence Hotline is staffed Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Calls are accepted, information is gathered and entered into a centralized database. The information is then communicated --by phone, fax or email-- to the appropriate law enforcement agency and schools. It is then up to the law enforcement agency and school district to decide how the case will be handled.

Fragrance Free Statement

Visitors to the Jefferson City Public Schools will often see signs regarding "Fragrance Free" zones. We also make every attempt to remind patrons of the district about fragrance free through our news releases to the media.

Fragranced products can cause people with some chronic illnesses to suffer additional and extra symptoms and medical expenses. These include asthma, allergies, sinus problems, rhinitis and migraine headaches. Some authorities and victims also believe that neurological conditions such as ADHD, autism, and other behavioral and learning disorders are exacerbated by fragrances.

The Jefferson City School District has students, parents and staff with health conditions that are, at times, severely affected by fragrances. In an effort to help these people enjoy their experience with the Jefferson City Public School District, we respectfully request that all patrons that attend any JCPS event, be as fragrance free as possible by not wearing perfume, aftershave, scented lotions, fragranced hair products, and/or similar products.

If you have questions about Fragrance Free, please call us at (573) 659-3018.
